Whoever made major space achievements first was seen as more powerful than the other one. ![]() The "space race" was another power struggle between the two superpowers. The best examples of this are the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Soviet war with Afghanistan. Although war between the US and USSR never broke out, many "proxy wars" were fought, where an ideological struggle in another country was used by the superpowers to push their agenda. These different ideologies put the two superpowers in conflict, kind of like how the US and China are today, but much worse. Simply put, the US was in favor of capitalist democracy, and the USSR was in favor of communism. It happened because both the US and USSR arose as superpowers after WWII, yet, they had very different ideological beliefs. It was between the US (and its allies) and the USSR (and its allies).
